GeoDiscover Alberta

Better decision making with better information

GeoDiscover Alberta is an online gateway to geographic information and analytical tools developed by the Government of Alberta for social, economic and environmental planning and management. Much of this information can be accessed by the public, in support of open government.

The challenge was to improve the consistency, quality and availability of the information; integrate data from authoritative sources; and promote standards that enable information sharing.

Strategy Roadmaps were developed for the evolution of the program, and for a collaborative initiative to eliminate duplicate spending and jointly fund the acquisition of province-wide aerial photography.

Geographic information is broadly available to all sectors to make better decisions. Aerial photography is available for the entire province at a small fraction of the previous cost.
