Jason served for 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired in 2013. Since his "retirement", he has worked with the Canadian federal government as a strategic analyst. During his time with the military, he participated in several operations in Eastern Europe and in the Middle East. He also served four years on a posting to Nairobi, Kenya and he has traveled and worked extensively throughout Africa. During the last half of his career, he specialized in international security policy and peace operations.
He has an interest in leadership and management, conflict analysis and management, strategic planning, peace operations and peacebuilding. He is also launching an NGO called Beyond Boundaries that is based on a belief that a new approach is needed to capacity building in human development work, an approach that favours local development and collaboration. His most demanding professional experience was a nine-month tour with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan where he worked in the Joint Operations Centre, and helped to develop a strategic planning capacity for the mission.
Jason has experience with strategic planning at the international, regional, national and organizational levels. He is also a foresight practitioner and is passionate about linking foresight analysis to organizational transformation and planning.
He has a wonderful, and patient, family with four children, all of whom have surpassed him in intellectual capacity.
